Located in the suburb of Spandau, the Hackesche Höfe market enjoys listed monument status. Wandering around these intimate historical courtyards, with their boutique retailers, artisanal workshops and authentic German 'Kneipen', or bars, is a highlight of any trip to Berlin.
To enter the Hackesche Höfe, which date back to 1906, is to encounter the ghosts of the past. Today the eight courtyards house around forty businesses and cultural attractions, including a cinema and the Chamäleon Theatre Berlin. Note the architectural mix of Art Nouveau with other historical styles.
