Located between the Tiergarten and Mitte districts, the redeveloped Potsdamer Platz is the centre of the new Berlin. With its restaurants, cinemas, shops and other attractions, it's a place to see and be seen.
Once one of Europe's busiest intersections, Potsdamer Platz became a ghostly no-man's-land during the Cold War, but has since been reborn as a lifestyle centre-cum-entertainment hotspot. Here you can shop among the arcades, marvel at the spectacular 'floating' roof of the Sony Centre, or enjoy the many artistic and cultural events that take place beneath it. For a breath-taking view of the city, head for Potsdamer Platz 1, where Europe's fastest lift will speed you to the 24th floor of the Kollhoff Tower in just 20 seconds. Here, 100 metres up, you can look out over the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
