Knights and noblewomen felt right at home here - and you can still see why: welcome to a genuine knight's castle!
The ruins of the hilltop castle are located in the border triangle of Hessen, Lower Saxony, and Thuringia and were originally owned by Saxon Count Otto of Northeim. During the Thirty Years War, the castle was destroyed by Swedish troops. Today, the Hanstein castle ruin is a popular tourist destination.
Our tip: the view from the north tower is simply breathtaking. A footpath leads from the castle to the so-called "Devil's Pulpit" (Teufelskanzel). The legendary vantage point offers an unforgettable view of the vast country at any time of year.
