The stately Benedictine abbey was founded on 28 April 1330 by Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria. The monastery has several inns and a brewery.
When the monastery was established, it focused on earthly concerns as well as the salvation of the soul. In particular, the trade route to Augsburg and Verona was to be secured. The importance of the abbey as a place of pilgrimage grew in the 17th and 18th centuries. The monastery church with its magnificently painted dome and Baroque organ is particularly impressive.

It used to be the favourite destination of former Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl – and for good reason. The crystal-clear mountain lake is surrounded by a picturesque landscape.
This lake, which is up to 190 metres deep, sits at the foot of the Watzmann. Depending on the time of day and the season, the water shimmers in different colours, from royal blue to emerald green. The view over to the Chapel of St. Bartholomew, which stands in front of the rugged east wall of the Watzmann, is simply unique. Passengers are carried around the lake on large electric boats.

Welcome to the fairytale king's fairytale castle. You'll be amazed by the magnificence and splendour of this wonderful palace with its fabulous rooms and the enchanting park.
Ludwig II was also called the fairytale king. He created an architectural monument in Linderhof Castle. The lines between dream and reality seem to blur. Although it is the smallest of Ludwig II's castles, it was also always his favourite, and he visited it many times. The young king's love for the mythological world of Richard Wagner, whose operas he loved so much, is reflected throughout. The castle and the extensive park are open to visitors.

Neuschwanstein is so much more than a castle. It was Ludwig II's fairytale, fabulous place of longing that casts its spell over more than 1.5 million visitors every year.
The wonderful castle, which was built by the Bavarian king Ludwig II, is modelled on a medieval castle with towers and battlements. Just like the castle itself, the Bavarian king's wishes became increasingly extravagant and excessive during its construction. The costs soared accordingly. However, they were paid out of the king's private fortune rather than by the treasury. Very sadly, he didn't live long enough to see its completion: he died on 13 June, 1886.
Neuschwanstein Castle is in Hohenschwangau near Füssen. It is considered the major work of historicism. Its two largest rooms are the throne room and the Singers' Hall. Neuschwanstein Castle is considered a symbol of Romanticism, and serves as a model for many buildings all over the world.
Bus excursions are available from the hotel every day. We will be pleased to provide you with further information.
