Dive into the fascinating history of the Saarland's coal mining tradition! The Rischbachstollen is a mining gallery and part of the former colliery St. Ingbert, which was closed down in 1959.

The gallery is still open for visitors, offering an impressive insight into the arduous working life of miners. Visitors are equipped with a helmet and a lamp before a coal cart takes them down the deep tunnels, while an experienced guide tells them about the times and life of the mining folk.

One of the region's most popular sauna and wellness facilities is located just a stone's throw away from our hotel. A slide paradise for all ages, jet stream and white water channel, sports pool with snorkel reef or award-winning sauna area: treat yourself to some me-time in the Calypso Bade- und Saunawelt (swimming and sauna paradise) in Deutschmühlental.

With so much on offer, you will feel equally at home here whether you are a sports enthusiast or just looking for rest and relaxation. The sauna paradise is a quite distinct world in its own right, with seven different saunas and steam baths. A particular highlight: the tunnel sauna with its "Lambestubb" and changing house, which opened in June 2018. Sauna visitors can literally immerse themselves in the "underground" world – a special kind of experience, reminiscent of Saarland's industrial past.

This picturesque park with its colourful flowers and old trees is right next to the hotel, and is perfect for walking, jogging and relaxing.

From the terrace of the brasserie CHEZ VICTOR'S you have wonderful views of the heart of the German-French Garden: Deutschmühlenweiher Lake and its fountains.  Designed in 1960 for the only German-French National Garden Show, the park and its numerous walkways are now used for recreation. You too can enjoy this delightful little spot, stroll through the "Valley of Flowers" and admire the rose and heather garden. A narrow-gauge railway runs in the summer months. There is a stop right outside our hotel. Or enjoy a bird's eye view from the cable car. Entrance to the German-French Garden is free. "Fruchteria" – the name has been synonymous with wonderful hand-made products from the region for many years. Owner Andrea Dumont runs a shop with a welcoming atmosphere and a fine selection of regional delicacies in the heart of Saarbrücken.

Here you will find a variety of different home-made jams, chutneys, etc., all the work of this small artisan producer. The range of products is augmented by food and drink from other partners, such as select chocolates, regional wines and spirits, and vinegars and oils from the Palatinate, Bliesgau and Saargau.

The exclusive 18-hole golf course is idyllically located on a plateau in the municipality of Wallerfangen, 340 meters above the Saargau ridge between the rivers Saar and Moselle. The green offers a great view of the surrounding area, and gorgeous old trees make for an exceptionally beautiful backdrop. In terms of gameplay, the course can be quite challenging, so it is particularly suitable for more experienced players. If you would like to improve your handicap, you should take advantage of the fully equipped driving range with 16 covered tees, practice bunkers plus putting, pitching and chipping greens.

At the heart of the Lorraine, Metz's impressive Centre Pompidou is a hotspot for art connoisseurs.

However, not only does the Centre Pompidou delight visitors as a museum of contemporary art: so too does the Museum Cour d'Or with its large archaeological collection, numerous parks and gardens and beautiful old churches. Those who prefer to see their art on a stage should head straight for the Theater-Oper – the oldest active opera house and theatre in France. In addition to the main shopping streets Rue Serpenoise and Rue des Clercs, the Kaiserviertel and the amphitheatre district near the SNCF train station are also ideal for shopping. And there are enchanting handicrafts and antiques to be found in the historic Outre-Seille quarter.

Saarbrücken is not only the state capital, but also a culinary stronghold, a shopping paradise and a hotspot of culture.

Despite, or perhaps because of the border to France, which is also the city border, Saarbrücken offers unlimited possibilities – starting with the culinary offer, for instance at the St. Johanner Market with its numerous cafés, restaurants and pubs. Not only do the people of Saarbrücken love their bustling city centre with the Bahnhofstrasse and the large Europagalerie for shopping; the French also appreciate the wide range of brands and the markets. Culture is also an important topic in Saarbrücken. While major works are performed at the Saarland State Theatre, an urban subculture has established itself in the eastern part of Saarbrücken. However, the most important sights such as Saarbrücken Castle, the baroque Ludwigskirche and the idyllic German-French Garden are right by the hotel.

The Modern Gallery of the Saarlandmuseum is situated close to the heart of Saarbrücken, and is one of the leading museums in south-west Germany. The exhibits in the museum complex range from Impressionism to the present. Key topics are the paintings of the Berlin Secession, German Expressionism and the art of the École de Paris and Informalism.

World famous: Franz Marc's "Blue Horse". While changing exhibitions of modern art attract visitors on the inside, outside is a generously designed sculpture garden with views of the Saar.
The extension, which opened in November 2017, offers some 1500 m² additional exhibition space, eight halls and a 14-m high room in the centre of the pavilion with plenty of space for contemporary works of art.

An easy ride from Saargemünd to Trier: the Saar cycle path runs right past our hotel. So step on it!

There are no major inclines on the Saar cycle path, and it passes picturesque landscapes, forests, meadows and vineyards. The Saarschleife at Mettlach and the picturesque little town of Saarburg are special highlights along the way. Incidentally, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is about a 30-minute cycle ride from the hotel. The Saar cycle path is 111 kilometres long.

The undisputed symbol of the Saarland. In addition to the venerable Cloef lookout point, the Saarschleife treetop path (which opened in July 2016) with its 42-metre-high observation tower, offers spectacular views of the characteristic course of the river.

The Saarschleife (Saar loop) begins in the Merzig suburb of Bessringen and ends in Mettlach. VIPs and politicians regularly visit the attraction when they travel to the Saarland. The most famous guests include Gerhard Schröder, Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The 1,250-metre-long treetop path, which opened in 2016, is located just above the lookout point near Orscholz. It leads from the Cloef atrium to the 42-metre-high observation tower, and offers several interesting stops with information boards along the way. The path is barrier-free and has a gentle incline of six percent.

The mostly easy-to-cycle route runs mainly along the river valleys of the Saar, Moselle and Sauer. The border triangle between Germany, France and Luxembourg, with its gently rising vineyards, is seen at its most beautiful. Idyllic river landscapes, the lakes of the Lorraine and the beautiful Sauer valley will set any nature-lover's pulse racing. And the cities of Saarbrücken, Metz, Luxembourg and Trier are well worth stopping off at on an eventful bike tour.

The industrial monument is one of the currently 39 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Germany. From the gigantic machines in the blower shed up to the charging platform, history really does come alive here.

Much has happened since the foundation of the first Völklingen steelworks in 1873. Formerly the centre of life for countless thousands of workers, today it is a lively cultural centre with exciting exhibitions. Visitors experience its story at speed in the multimedia introduction – which in itself is an experience. From an airy height there are impressive views over the city of Völklingen and the active Saarstahl steelworks. Incidentally, two festivals get the place rocking in summer: the award-winning Electro Magnetic and the Urban Art! Hip Hop Festival.
