The four-legged friends in this unique wildlife refuge all have a terrible past behind them. In the Alternative Bear Park Worbis you have now found an animal-friendly, natural home.

Be fascinated by the wild animals. Witness their diverse abilities as you walk “through” the bear forest on walking paths close to bears. A lot of fun for young and old.

Even the "knights of old" felt completely at home here, and you can still see the evidence of that today: welcome to a real knight's castle.

The ruins of the hill castle lie in the border triangle of Hesse, Lower Saxony and Thuringia, and originally belonged to Count Otto of Northeim. The castle was destroyed by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War. Today, the ruins of Hanstein Castle are a popular tourist destination. Our tip: the views from the North Tower are simply breathtaking. From the castle, there is a footpath to the so-called "Teufelskanzel", the "Devil's Pulpit". The legendary vantage point offers unforgettable views of the wide-open space at any time of the year.

The lovely medieval city of Duderstadt, with its wonderful timber-framed houses, lies tucked away amidst the idyllic landscape of the Eichsfeld region.

Duderstadt is definitely worth a visit. Narrow winding alleys, the mighty towers of the Church of St. Cyriakus and the magnificent City Hall are just a few of the attractions. The whole city radiates a medieval charm, with lovingly restored timber-framed houses, an old city wall and ramparts with pretty floral decorations. Our tip: visit the museum of regional history if you can. It houses a huge collection on the history of archaeology, trade and commerce.

This monument to German history is just a stone's throw from our hotel. Many former GDR "Iron Curtain" border barriers can still be seen on the museum's spacious premises today.

Some places write history, and the Borderland Museum Eichsfeld is one of them. Around 6 million travellers crossed the inner German border here between 1973 and 1989. The Eichsfeld Borderland Museum opened its doors in 1995 and was completely redesigned in 2010. Today, an exhibition covering more than 1,000 m² gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the consequences of the German division. Thus the museum is both a monument and a memorial with a message of caution for future generations. There are also regular lectures. Our tip: you can visit many of the old facilities along the 6km "Borderland route" ("Grenzlandweg") and obtain further information from the 24 information points. What an adrenaline rush! Since 2017, the Skywalk has been offering a breathtaking experience to visitors of the historic Eichsfeld region in Thuringia.

It seems as though you were floating weightlessly above the abyss: Glass bottom and glass railing of the spectacular 13-ton heavy and 14-metre long construct allow unparalleled views of the gorgeous pristine landscape. The viewing platform extends 9 metres out over the rim of the Sonnenstein mountain (485 metres above the ground), and visitors can see across the Ohm Hills all the way to the Harz mountain range.
